‘So much has happened’: Kylie Minogue gets emotional during nine-year first

Must read

Kylie Minogue shared some emotional moments on stage in London with a crowd of 65,000 fans on Saturday night (Sunday morning AEST).

The 56-year-old singer, who is arguably riding one of the biggest waves of her three decade plus career so far, was almost in tears after the crowd roared following her first song of the night and asked the audience not to make her cry and ruin her make-up.

The last time Minogue headlined a BST Hyde Park concert was in 2015 and told fans she was “really aware” the world has shifted since then.

”I knew you were gonna be here tonight but you still take my breath away, thank you,” she began.

“I’m really aware the last time I played BST was nine years ago … so much has happened for me, for you, for all of us,” she added, hinting at the pandemic, loves and losses.

The Padam Padam singer, who played through a range of her hits from the ’80s to now during the 90-minute set, also said one of the biggest differences in that time is the new music she’s made, which effectively relaunched her career – especially in the US.

“Nine years ago was so different because so many [of my] songs didn’t exist,” she said, mentioning her 2023 album Tension and it’s success.

“I want to bottle this feeling, every artist would. It’s because of you and I wish I had a better segue but Hold onto Now,” she added of her fans before launching into the song.

Tension spawned the single Padam Padam, which became a viral sensation on TikTok, earned a place in the urban dictionary and introduced a new generation of fans to the Melbourne-born artist.

The megahit also earned Minogue her first Grammy in 20 years and her first ARIA Award in 21 years, along with a BRIT Icon award and the Billboard Women In Music Icon Award – all in the space of six months.

Not to mention her Las Vegas residency.

But it wasn’t all looking back and being reflective for the superstar.
