Star Wars: The Acolyte Review-Bombed on Metacritic & Rotten Tomatoes

Must read

Star Wars: The Acolyte has had a commendable critical reception, with Comingsoon’s review also calling it “a decent Star Wars start.” However, despite the positive critics’ reviews, viewers haven’t been kind to The Acolyte across Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes. It continues to take a hit across both platforms, facing disproportionately low user reviews.

The Acolyte review-bombed with low user reviews

Fans and critics seem to have a stark difference in perception concerning The Acolyte. While the latest Star Wars prequel series has received great critical reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, common users are review-bombing it dramatically.

At the moment of writing, The Acolyte stands at an 88% Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score out of 68 critical reviews and a positive Metacritic score of 69 out of 26 reviews.

However, RT’s Audience Score is 47% after 250+ reviews, with more than half of the users giving it a negative review. Similarly, on Metacritic, the user score stands at a very low 3.3. Only 29% of the total 105 reviews are positive. While 7% of reviews are mixed, 65% of reviews are negative.

Among the negative reviews, some viewers have complained about its pacing, and others called the series “disappointing” and its story “below expectations.” However, a large number of negative comments seem to be regarding its diverse cast, with the show not featuring a lot of A-List actors.

Fans have also shown displeasure with how the series has used Carrie-Anne Moss’ character in particular. As a result, the difference between the show’s critical acclaim and viewers’ reception seems apparent. Whether that will affect its overall viewership remains to be seen.

The official synopsis of Star Wars: The Acolyte reads:

“An investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master against a dangerous warrior from his past. As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.”

Besides Carrie-Anne Moss, The Acolyte stars Amandla Stenberg as Mae and Osha Aniseya, Lee Jung-jae as Master Sol, Charlie Barnett as Yord Fandar, Dafne Keen as Jecki Lon, and Rebecca Henderson as Master Vernestra Rwoh, among others.
