State of Origin Late Mail: Game One – Tedesco called in as Edwards ruled out

Must read

Former Blues fullback James Tedesco will make a remarkable return to the Origin arena after Dylan Edwards was ruled out by the Blues on Sunday morning with a quad injury.

Edwards injured his quad while training with the Blues on Saturday, with the injury ruling him out of what would have been his Origin debut.

Subject to ARLC granting approval for James Tedesco to come from outside the 20 selected players announced on Monday, he will join the squad later today in Sydney.

New South Wales v Queensland, Wednesday at Accor Stadium

New South Wales: James Tedesco will join Blues camp on Sunday after he was called in as a last-minute replacement for Dylan Edwards, who has been ruled out with a quad injury. The injury to Edwards sees Tedesco, who was initially overlooked for the number one jumper, extend his record-breaking streak of Origin games for New South Wales with his 23rd straight game. Nicho Hynes has been cleared for the series opener as he manages a calf complaint, with Luke Keary and Mitch Barnett – who was on standby for Liam Martin (hamstring) – released from the camp on Friday.

Queensland: Maroons hooker Harry Grant didn’t feature in Queensland’s first training session on Tuesday after reportedly feeling unwell but is good to go after returning to training on Thursday. Selwyn Cobbo has spent time at centre and wing as he prepares for a super-sub role off the bench for Billy Slater’s side.
