Steph Curry Explains Why NBA Won’t See Another Dynasty Like the Golden State Warriors

Must read

Stephen Curry discussed the reasoning behind his belief that the NBA won’t see another dynasty similar to the Golden State Warriors.

“I don’t think [it will be replicated] just because it’s very hard to keep things together in this league,” Curry told ESPN’s Kendra Andrews. “A lot more player movement. Me, Klay and Draymond, we complemented each other so well for so long. We all brought something different to the table, so we’ll see. Records are meant to be broken. Dynasties come all different shapes inside of us, so we’ll see.”

The Warriors’ championship-winning core of Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson came to an end after Thompson joined the Dallas Mavericks as part of a sign-and-trade agreement on July 1. The shooting guard also received a new three-year contract worth $50 million.

Thompson spent every season of his career with Curry since he was drafted in 2011, with Green joining them during the 2012 offseason. The two-time MVP mentioned the long-term consistency with all three players when looking back on the Warriors’ dynasty.

“People thought this was over in 2019 … but 2022 was an amazing championship because we defied the odds … That’s 11 years of almost 12 years of championship relevancy built around a certain core,” Curry said, per Andrews.

Golden State won four championships with all three players on the roster, adding Kevin Durant for the team’s back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018. When Durant departed in free agency following a loss to the Toronto Raptors in 2019, questions surrounded the Warriors’ future.

However, the trio won another ring in 2022 with a new supporting cast that included Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole, and Jonathan Kuminga.

While the Warriors will attempt to pursue a playoff run next season with Curry and Green still in the mix, the star point guard doesn’t envision another team going on an extended run of championship success with the same core players anytime soon.
