Summer Game Fest 2024 Will Focus On Already-Announced Games Coming This Year

Must read

Everyone’s favourite video game showcase host, Geoff Keighley, has come out to play down expectations of this year’s big Summer Game Fest Live event, revealing during a Q&A stream over on Twitch that the show for 2024 will be “a little bit quieter” and focus largely on existing/already-announced games.

Keighley says there will still be some big new announcements in the mix during the show this weekend, and that the roughly two-hour event will be an eclectic one overall, but it seems he’s keen to keep folks’ hype levels in check, going in.

“One of the things you’ll see with the show this week is we really tried to programme some unexpected things, from smaller teams and independent studios, into the show as well, alongside some big blockbuster games and franchises that you will see in the show as well,” Keighley said in the Q&A (transcribed by VGC).

“I think it’s going to be, generally, a little bit quieter this summer in terms of crazy new announcements and shocking surprises and things like that.”

Keighley has also directly named a couple of big, anticipated titles that definitively won’t be featured, including GTA 6, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, The Wolf Among Us 2 and Kingdom Hearts 4, while mentioning that we’ll see more from Metaphor: ReFantazio, Monster Hunter Wilds and what’s next for Palworld.

“There will definitely be new announcements, but the show is largely focused on, I think, existing games that have new updates for fans, just in terms of level setting,” he adds further in the stream.

“[The] Game Awards has a lot of usually big surprises and big, new reveals. This show is very much, it’s largely focused on announced stuff. There are absolutely new game announcements throughout the show, but just to level set, it’s not all brand new stuff. It tends to be things that are coming out later this year.

“And there are things that we’ll announce that will come out later this year that haven’t been announced yet, but this is not a show that has a lot of like, you know, coming in 2026 or 2027, or teasers for games that are years and years out. I’m trying to think, every time is different, but that’s generally what I would say just in terms of expectation setting.”

Summer Game Fest 2024 will kick off live at the YouTube Theatre in Los Angeles as well as streamed across multiple platforms on Saturday, June 8th, 2024 at 7AM AEST.
