SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — This week DJ and PK focused on basketball and the U.S Open Golf Championships. There are a pair of basketball stories. The continued excitement around BYU basketball is ratcheting up another notch as Dallin Hall spoke with the media and described his trip into the transfer portal. Hall estimated 15 schools contacted him, including some schools BYU played against. Hall spoke with them about what they liked, and where they thought his game needs to improve. Hall explored his options around the country while the Cougars looked for a new coach. When Kevin Young was hired, Hall was convinced to return to BYU.
PK also believes Kevin Young knows you only get one chance to make a first impression and he believes Young is trying to cannon ball into the deep end of the pool and get everyone’s attention.
The other basketball story is the NBA Finals, where the Boston Celtics have claimed a 2-0 lead over the Dallas Mavericks after the first two games. Playing at home the Celtics have avoided the mediocre performances that cost them a game versus Miami and again versus Cleveland. The Celtics have consistently made Luka Doncic play defense and have done a good job of defending Kyrie Irving. Plus, Boston’s “role players” have come up big while the Dallas bench has struggled. The Mavericks bench players scored 9 points on 3-12 shooting in Game 2. Meanwhile Kristaps Porzingas dominated Game 1 and Jrue Holiday had a huge Game 2 for the Celtics.
DJ and PK also discussed the continued domination Scottie Scheffler put on display as he won Jack Nicklaus’ Memorial Golf Tournament. Scheffler has won five times on tour in 2024 including the Masters’ and he is a heavy favorite at the U.S. Open Championship at Pinehurst #2 this week. Scheffler’s 2024 is starting to shape up as the kind of year Tiger Woods put together in his prime.
