Task Force urges all components to prevent online gambling practice

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Online Gambling Eradication Task Force called on all strategic components in Indonesian society, from community leaders to academics, to play a role in preventing online gambling practices and taking action against them.

“We invite all related components in society to jointly prevent and take action against online gambling,” deputy head of the task force and Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, stated on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the task force conducted a coordination meeting to prevent online gambling by inviting representatives of strategic components, such as religious leaders, community leaders, representatives of social organizations, and the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI), to coordinate steps to prevent and take firm action against online gambling.

“Representatives from all elements of religion in Indonesia present at the meeting, from Islam to Confucianism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Catholicism, and also Christianity. Also present were elements of society, PGRI, MUI (Indonesian Ulema Council), Mosque Council, the Chancellor’s Forum, and others,” Effendy stated.

According to the minister, the participation of various parties is important to prevent and take action against online gambling that disturbs and endangers the integrity of the Indonesian nation.

“Online gambling is very disturbing and dangerous for the integrity of our nation,” he emphasized.

The formation of the Online Gambling Task Force is regulated in Presidential Decree Number 21 of 2024 on the Online Gambling Eradication Task Force that was issued in Jakarta on June 14, 2024.

The task force is led by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Hadi Tjahjanto, and comprises personnel from the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, National Police (Polri), Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), Attorney General’s Office, Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK), as well as other related agencies.
