The final major of the 2023/24 racing season is the Tatts Tiara (1400m), which will be run and won this Saturday at Eagle Farm.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2024 Tatts Tiara.
2024 Tatts Tiara Speed Map
A race that looks void of proper speed. C’Est Magique led throughout to win the Dane Ripper so I suspect she goes forward. Coeur Volante is drawn wide so I think they roll the dice and push the button. Zoe’s Promise is a track/distance winner from the front this prep. Semana is drawn well and will be handy and what does hot favourite Bella Nipotina do from the carpark?
2024 Tatts Tiara Runner Preview:
1. Bella Nipotina: The jockey booking is scary but if Bella Nipotina holds her form, she just wins. I think she has claims to being the best sprinter in Australia in terms of consistency at the highest level and on the road, not just in one area. She tried her guts out in the Stradbroke but the weight pull between her and Stefi Magnetica was the difference, as well as the all time steer from Zac Lloyd. She’s just better than these surely.
2. Semana: Semana looks to have been set for the race and is very dangerous. Trial indicated that the Stradbroke would be a barrier trial for this and that was how it panned out, but I really liked the way she found the line late in the piece behind Stefi Magnetica. Back to Mares grade, fitter, can settle much closer…hard to beat.
3. Roots: Waller in a Grand Final = always respect, but that was the thought process in the Sangster and she was terrible. And I’d also think if she was going any good, J Mac would choose her over C’Est Magique so the fact he goes the other way tells me this girl should be dismissed.
4. Opal Ridge: The market seems to like her and I just can’t work out why. Just a win at Scone first up, in a race where the form hasn’t been franked, then was pretty plain I thought in the Moreton Cup. Poor in this race last year when I was keen on her and for mine, I think she’s a 1200m horse.
5. Comrade Rosa: On face value, I thought she was just fair in the Dane Ripper, but when you break down the race and the sectionals, her run was a beauty, clocking some of the best late splits in the race. I have my doubts on her at 1400m, at this level…first four threat for sure more so than a winning threat.
6. Bubble Rock: Former US mare that resumed in the Helen Coughlan where she was kept quite safe in betting and ran very well against the race shape behind Chinny Boom. She has the most upside of any runner in the race, stable is flying…does she have the quality? Time will tell.
7. Vienna Princess: I think this mare was a sneaky eye catcher in the Dane Ripper behind C’Est Magique and maps much better this time around. Just don’t think she’s good enough and I am not sure that is the A1 form reference.
8. C’Est Magique: Was a milk drinker when with Grahame Begg. Went to Chris Waller and the end result? Led throughout to win the Dane Ripper and did it from the front in running fast time. Right racing style if those same tactics are adopted here and if the track is playing up/in, she’s dangerous.
9. Lekvarte: I do have time for this mare. Just not sure what to make of her first up run in the Moreton Cup where she got back to near last in the run and just stayed there, failing to get involved. This stable loves to target races, and she is a mare who has the engine under the hood to measure up. Not going to say she can’t be in the finish.
10. Ausbred Flirt: Great effort in defeat in the Dane Ripper but the map looks too tricky.
11. More Secrets: If she brought her absolute best, first four threat. But not sure she is at that level based on the trial win and runs prior to the break.
12. Zoe’s Promise: Like this mare back to 1400m after two 1600m runs, where she simply didn’t run the trip. Sneaky outside hope if she finds the front and gets control, like when winning first up, but doubt that eventuates.
13. Coco Jamboo: Former UK mare that won the Hawkesbury Crown fresh before going to the Dane Ripper where she was back and wide. She did make up ground but was never really threatening behind C’Est Magique. If she can settle closer, she could pinch a first four spot.
14. Coeur Volante: I think you have to be very forgiving of her two runs back, sitting wide throughout in both races and been forced to do too much work. I think if she can get an economical run near the speed, her best is more than good enough.
15. Roll On High: Roll On High has been up forever it seems like but she is in a purple patch. She really caught the eye when letting down to win the Fred Best before going to the Stradbroke where she ran a beauty from near last on the turn, albeit was never threatening behind Stefi Magnetica. If she can get a drag into the race and be within range, she can take this out.
16. Abounding: She ran two weeks ago in the Dane Ripper when near the speed throughout and tried hard but given the race shape, with the winner C’Est Magique getting complete control, this girl couldn’t reel it in. Can understand why they are running here given it’s a Group l, but the opening race looked more her go.
17. Miss Joelene: Ran over 2200m three weeks ago in the Oaks when a ripping third. Now back to 1400m…odd set up, but she’ll be strong late, provided there is petrol left in the tank.
18. Banana Queen (First Emergency): Expected more from her in the Dane Ripper. Not for me.
19. Willinga Beast (Second Emergency): Peach ride from Williams saw her win the Hinkler. Too hard for her here.
