The United States women’s golf team is all set for the Paris Olympics next month. The three players that will compete for the gold from the country are Nelly Korda, Lilia Vu, and Rose Zhang.
Korda will look to repeat the feat in Paris. The group is determined by the International Golf Federation’s Rolex Rankings. The top 15 get in. Up to four from each country can make the cut. Ally Ewing, who recently finished in a tie for fifth at the Women’s PGA Championship, missed the cut by one spot. She finished 16th in the Rolex Rankings.
Korda will hope to rebound at the Olympics after a rough start at the last two majors this season.
She missed the cut at both the US Open and PGA Championship. Representing her country and defending her gold medal will be important for Korda to get back on track after winning five tournaments in a row and six in seven tournaments she played.
She will hope to become the first golfer, men’s or women’s, to win the gold or medal after medalling in 2020. No one who medaled in 2016, also medaled in 2020. Korda is also joining Lydia Ko from New Zealand as the two medalists from 2020 competing this time around. Ko won the bronze medal.
The United States team has an impressive roster. All three players have won this season on tour.
Both Korda and Vu have won multiple major titles. Zhang is an up-and-coming star on tour. She won her professional debut at the Mizuho Americas Open. She also won the Cognizant Founders Cup this year.
Golf returned to the Olympics in 2016 after not being a part of the games for 100 years. Korda and men’s golfer Xander Schauffele were the first Americans to win the gold since 1904.
