Teenager allegedly trapped and sexually assaulted by rideshare driver

A Melbourne teenager was allegedly held captive and raped by a Victorian rideshare driver early on Monday morning.

The 19-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted after she got into a car she believed was a ride-share, but had not booked, shortly before 2am in Melbourne’s CBD.

Victoria Police said a 43-year-old man was arrested at his home in Pakenham on Thursday morning before being interviewed by officers.

He has since been charged with rape and false imprisonment, with police confirming his ride-share licence had been suspended.

The man is due to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday afternoon.
