“That’s a massive asset”: David King’s high praise for Carlton recruit

Must read

Carlton gun Elijah Hollands has been brilliant for the Blues in his first season at his new club according to two-time premiership player David King.

After being drafted by Gold Coast with Pick 7 in the 2020 national draft, the 22-year-old joined his younger brother Oliver at Ikon Park at the end of last year.

Despite a rough start to the season due to an off-field suspension which saw him miss the first two games, Hollands has played all available 11 games for the Blues.

Traded for a future third-round selection in the draft, King believes the Blues have found a star in Hollands who will be a big part of their future.

“They knew what they were getting and they got him and now they’re going to live this for quite some time,” King told SEN’s Whateley.

“I think they’ve explored what this guy can do, particularly at centre bounce clearances and then playing half-forward.

“He is very capable at clearance, and then he is smart enough to handle that half-forward role.

“Usually that’s a senior core player, usually that’s a hundred gamer or hundred-plus gamer that has to cope with that sort of shift.

“That’s a massive asset.”

Coming off a career-best performance with 19 disposals and three goals in an important win against Essendon on Sunday night, Hollands could prove to be a significant part of Carlton’s push towards an elusive premiership in 2024.

With the bye this week, the Blues will face Geelong in a Friday night blockbuster on June 21 at the MCG.
