With over 20 years of travelling under her belt, Samantha Brown knows a thing or two about what to pack.
The host of American travel show Places to Love, recently shared a post highlighting the six ‘non-tech’ items she “can’t travel without“.
And while there were some obvious inclusions, like sunglasses and a pen, there was one cheap household item that apparently comes in very handy.

In a video on her account, Samantha explained why she especially loves to take a roll of duct tape, “for child (and pet) proofing.”
“You can tape up those dangling cords of the drapes and shades that are really dangerous,” she explained.
“You can tape over electrical outlets.”
She has also used the tape rolled into a ball to help cover sharp edges in hotel rooms.
”It definitely fixes everything while on the road.”
Also on her list of items she can’t travel without are bandaids and a small towel.

Samantha isn’t the only one sharing praise for the humble roll of duct tape.
Ashley Kosciolek, who writes for The Points Guy, said the cheap item had so many uses.
“I was travelling home for Thanksgiving and decided to gate-check my hard-sided carry-on luggage. When I picked it up at the end of the flight, it was cracked in two places and had a giant hole at the top,” she told The Express.
“Thankfully, I had a roll of duct tape inside so I patched it up for the duration of my trip.”
Getaway host Catriona Rowntree also recently shared some of her packing tips with 9Travel, and said the number one thing she always has in her carry-on bag is also something you can pick up from the supermarket for $2.
“Wet Ones are brilliant,” she told us.
“They work not just as hand sanitisers, but they actually will get a stain out of everything.”
