A Kmart shopper has revealed a huge problem with the company’s popular corduroy skirts.
The $18 buys, which return each season in different colours because they are so popular, have ‘inconsistent sizing’.
The shopper, who is usually a size 12, purchased the skirt in green in 2023 opting for the size 16 option.
That skirt was a little large, so this year she bought a pink one in size 14 which does up but feels ‘too tight’.
Frustrated, the woman went in store and bought yet another of the skirts. This time she opted for a tan in size 16 which fit perfectly.
Posting to a popular Facebook page, the woman asked if anyone else had struggled with Kmart’s sizing inconsistency.
She also shared a photo of the three skirts which show the ‘wild sizing’, especially between the size 16 skirts which are noticeably mismatched.
The woman said that while ‘size doesn’t matter’ to her – she is just happy to have found one that is comfortable.

The shopper laid out three skirts and asked people to guess their sizes – they were all a size 16
However, she did say it does have the potential to impact others and could have a negative influence on their mental health.
Other Kmart fans part of the Kmart Hacks and Decor group weren’t shocked by the revelation.
‘I swear they just play lucky dip with the size tags sometimes,’ one woman said.
‘Exactly why it is a good idea to try them on first. Can’t trust a tag. I fit anywhere from a 12 – 20 according to my wardrobe,’ said another.
‘I bought a 5pk of undies from Kmart and 2 pairs fitted me perfectly, the other 3 were a smaller size. All labels were size 14.’
Another woman had tried on the skirts and found the same thing.
‘Tried a few on the other day took the same size in and one was too big and the other didn’t do up,’ she said.
One woman didn’t try hers on before leaving the shop and realised her mistake too late.
‘The same happened with me! I got a brown and a black, I always wear the black but had to return the brown!’
Others theorised as to how the sizing errors happen.
‘When one size of pattern is cut they are cut in a big pile, not individually. The top few are close to size but as they get to bottom of fabric pile size either goes in or out depending on type of fabric cut ie: stretch. This leads to a variation in sizes of one size,’ one woman explained.
Speaking to Yahoo Australia, a Kmart representative said the team always follow a ‘consistent sizing guide’. After becoming aware of the complaint they’ve launched an investigation into ‘what could have occurred’.
