News Corp is bringing back the much missed mX newspaper to Melbourne train stations – but alas, it’s not here to stay.
For the uninitiated, mX was a slim daily paper given away each afternoon around train stations in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. It launched in 2001, and wrapped in 2015 once it became apparent everyone was just using their phones to kill the tedium of transit.
The reboot, which will last just two issues, is a partnership between News Corp and RISING, a music, art, and performance festival in Melbourne.
Special mX RISING editions will be distributed to 60,000 city workers at key train stations in Melbourne’s CBD, and will be guest edited by Brodie Lancaster.

“We were looking for a high-impact activation to mark the festival’s opening and introduce RISING to new audiences,” RISING’s artistic directors said in a release.
“Collaborating with News Corp to revive mX aligns perfectly with our mission to celebrate Melbourne’s identity and ensure art remains accessible to all.”
