A group of vacationing golfers were reminded recently that Whistler, B.C., is a different world when it comes to bears
Ever heard of a teddy bear picnic? Now imagine a bear climbing into your golf cart and stealing your lunch bag right from the seat. A video sent to The Weather Network shows a black bear doing just that! Talk about a whole different kind of “picnic.”
The bear was recently spotted at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club, snatching the lunch from a golfer on site.
“We call him the lunch bandit,” said April Lormier, the golfer who lost her lunch to the bear. “He literally sat in the bush area there, and he went through the cookies, the banana and the bag of chips, and he didn’t seem to want anything to do with us, other than what was in the lunch bag.”
Despite capturing the bear for this memorable video, Lormier said it was still quite the nerve-racking experience.
“I’ve never seen a bear before. I was grateful to be with people that are from the local area, so they knew to sit there and wait, and to stay calm and speak quietly.”

Luckily, no one was injured, but the group did postpone its tee time that day.
