A week after Memorial Day, the Memorial golf tournament kicks off for the 48th time. The annual event, founded by golf legend Jack Nicklaus, plays with the purpose of its name – to memorialize those, living or deceased, who have distinguished themselves in the name of golf.
The tournament is held at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus, Nicklaus’s hometown. Besides playing to honor golf standouts, the tournament plays with the goal of showcasing the world’s best golfers on one of the most challenging courses. It also benefits Greater Columbus Charities in support of the Nicklaus Children’s Healthcare Foundation, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and more national and local foundations.
This year, the Memorial golf tournament will certainly accomplish its second goal. Golfers Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland, Rory McIlroy and dozens more will compete for the $20 million purse.
The weeklong event has something for everyone outside of world-class golf. Family events, tailgates and street fairs will be held throughout the week, making it a must-go tournament for everyone.
