Pride Of Jenni will target the King Charles Stakes this spring carnival.
The Ciaron Maher-trained star conquered almost all before her during the 2023/24 racing season and catapulted herself up the ranks of Australian horses.
In the most recent season, Pride Of Jenni won three Group 1 races, plus an All-Star Mile as well two runners up runs in the Australian Cup and the CF Orr Stakes.
Given her flexibility and adaptability in being able to run over 1400 to 2000m, connections have plenty of options as to what race they can target her towards in the spring.
Speaking to SENTrack, Pride Of Jenni’s owner Tony Ottobre says the Maher camp will categorically target the King Charles Stakes over 1600m at Randwick on October 12 with the option of backing up one week later in the Cox Plate.
“We’re definitely targeting the King Charles over 1600m,” Ottobre said.
“Hopefully we then back it up into the Cox Plate but unfortunately, they’re one week apart but she’s done it before.
“She backed up in two Group 1s with one week between runs at Flemington so because she’s got those runs on the board, we know that she can actually do it.
“The King Charles is a $5 million dollar race which is the same as the Cox Plate and also at 1600m we’ve got a pretty good idea on who we’ll be racing against as they don’t bring horses from overseas to run in the King Charles or the Blamey.
“We don’t know what’s going to happen in the Cox Plate, all of a sudden they can bring some Japanese horses over that are absolute guns over 2000m which means we could be up for a bit of a challenge.
“I thought, let’s challenge the King Charles and hopefully she wins that and then the monkey is off our back, and she’s got her target race and the rest will be easier for us.”
Pride Of Jenni is the current $3.50 favourite in the King Charles Stakes in front of horses like Fangirl, Celestial Legend, Via Sistina and Mr Brightside.
In the Cox Plate, she’s the now $4 favourite in front of last year’s winner Romantic Warrior and boom juvenile Broadsiding.
