James McDonald believes Stradbroke favourite Vilana should be shorter in the market.
The James Cummings-trained six-year-old was nothing short of scintillating seven days ago in the Moreton Cup and was subsequently backed into favouritism for the Group 1 feature.
Since being gelded, Vilana has been racing in career best form and McDonald saw it first hand having ridden him in his last start win.
Despite not riding him on Saturday due to his light weight (53kgs), McDonald says if he holds his form and runs like he did seven days ago, they won’t see which way he goes on the weekend.
“It’s chalk and cheese now (since being gelded),” McDonald told SENTrack.
“He’s in a good spot that horse and he’s absolutely airborne who looks phenomenal.
“Obviously he’s enjoying his time up in Queensland his performance last start was unbelievable and that was a performance of a winner of a Stradbroke.
“If he turns up in that form he’s going to be pretty hard to beat or should win the race and I think he should be shorter in the market to be fair.”
Vilana will be ridden by Time Clark with the pair jumping from barrier 14.
