Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan believes that Team India is likely to dominate world cricket in the coming years, after their T20 World Cup 2024 victory in Barbados.
India suffered a decade-long drought of ICC trophies after their previous victory in the 2013 Champions Trophy in England.
This win was India’s second T20 World Cup title, which came after a gap of 17 years since their first championship in the 2007 edition.

Why does Michael Vaughan believe that Team India will dominate ICC tournaments and world cricket?
Vaughan was speaking on an Australian podcast, Grand Prairie Fire, when he discussed the significance of the victory for the Men in Blue and also the signs of what this means for the rest of the world.
He felt that the Indian team would have gained a much bigger confidence following their much denied and deserved victory at the ICC tournament.
“My worry is for the rest of the world now India have got this one trophy, which has been hard for them to win – it’s taken them 10 years. They have got such a powerful squad,” he said.
Further, he suggested that the next two ICC tournaments, which are scheduled to be held in the subcontinent, will be an advantage for Team India due to favourable conditions.
“If you look at the Champions trophy in Pakistan – similar conditions, then the T20 World Cup 2026 in Sri Lanka and India, we know what is going to go on there,” the former England captain added.
“So very powerful. They’ve not won a World Test Championship yet. They’ve been in the Final of the last two, I’m sure they will make the next one.”

Vaughan highlighted the plight of other international teams as several star plays step down for countries like England and New Zealand, who will then have to undergo transition periods.
With this, he insisted that India and Australia are two in the short list of teams who have powerful teams for the future.
“This group of Indian players, I think that they could go on a bit of a roll. They could go on a real roll. If you look at Australia, they’ve got obviously a powerful team – no David Warner but Jake Fraser “Berserk” [McGurk] will obviously come in, so they’re going to continue to be powerful”
“I think England and New Zealand are clearly going to go on a bit of transitional period. Bangladesh, you don’t really need to mention them. And then Sri Lanka. There’s not many that I can look at that can go close to this Indian side.”
“They might and should by the way, with the talent that they have, the Indian team could have a few years of dominance,” Vaughan concluded that Team India has all the talent and conditions to dominate world cricket in the upcoming years.
