This two-step trick removes condensation and stops it coming back

Must read

Condensation on windows is a given in winter and can result in small puddles of water covering our windowsills.

But professional organiser Anita Birges has discovered a handy home hack that could change that and shared the simple how-to process in an Instagram Reel.

“Absolutely blown away by this winter home hack!! You will be as well‼️” she captioned the video.

To try the hack yourself all you’ll need is a dry microfibre cloth and some dishwashing liquid.

”Grab your dishwashing liquid and a dry microfibre cloth, put a small amount on the cloth and rub vigorously all over the glass and frame until dry,” she explained.

In the video you can see Birges does this while the condensation is still on the window. This means your cloth might become wet during the process, so you’ll just need to change over to a dry one.

“Come back a day later and you will be astounded by how well this works! It has something to do with the dishwashing liquid creating a barrier which stops condensation!”

To show how well the hack works, Birges tried it on the middle window in one room. The next day you can see small patches of condensation on the outside windows on none on the middle window.

The hack was a hit with Birges’ followers who all seem to be dealing with condensation in their homes with the cold weather.

“Immediately will start this tomorrow morning… ours is so bad,” one said.

“Going to do it right now,” another wrote.

While condensation is annoying, it’s not always a problem and according to Adam Davies glass technical manager at the Australian Glass & Window Association it’s “usually harmless”.

“The real concern arises when condensation becomes excessive and is left untreated. This creates an environment ripe for the growth of mould, mildew, and potential water damage,” he told 9honey Living.

Condensation occurs in homes because of the humidity and temperature inside reacting with the cold window.

So to prevent excessive condensation it’s important to reduce the humidity in the home with good ventilation, like opening the window after a shower and leaving the bedroom door open while you sleep.
