More than 10,000 homes across the State are without power as a ‘very dangerous thunderstorm’ smashes Perth.

Western Power reported 28 outages about 11pm on Saturday, with five impacting more than 1000 customers.

Residents in Wellard, Orelia, Kwinana Town Centre, Casuarina, Bertram, Hope Valley, Anketell, Calista, Baldivis, Medina and The Spectacles were affected the worst, with power not expected to be restored until 2am.

The outages came less than an hour after the Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning as a thunderstorm “likely to produce intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding, damaging winds and large hailstones” approached the metro area.

Emergency WA issued an alert urging people to take action now.

“If you live in Lower West and parts of the Central West, South West and Great Southern districts you should take action and stay safe with very dangerous severe thunderstorms to come.”

Locations which may be affected include Mandurah, Rottnest Island, Fremantle, Henderson, Rockingham and Secret Harbour, Perth City, Joondalup, Armadale, Ballajura, Hillarys, Scarborough, Stirling, Wangara, Anketell, Byford, Gosnells, Jandakot, Jarrahdale, Kalamunda, Midland, North Dandalup and Roleystone.

Motorists are also being told to drive with caution, with Main Roads confirming traffic lights at multiple intersections in Kwinana blacked out.
