Must read

Tributes are flowing for three members of a family killed in a crash in Queensland’s South Burnett.

Steven Wheeler, 54, his parents Margaret, 81, and Bob Wheeler, 84, were killed when the car they were in collided with a B-double truck Thursday morning.

The South Burnett Darts Association took to social media to pay tribute to the family.

“I am sorry to inform you that there was a multiple fatality accident near Nanango this morning,” they said.

“Condolences … to [Steven’s daughter] for the loss of her father and grandparents.”

Mr Wheeler was heavily involved with the Kingaroy Speedway, which paid tribute to him on their social media page.

Police are expected to return to the site of the Nanango crash today to continue investigations. (ABC News)

“The South Burnett Speedway and the entire speedway community has lost one of our family members,” they said.

“Sadly, Steven Wheeler, or Ice Cream or Dessy as he was so fondly known to many of us, lost his life along with his mother and father in a tragic traffic accident.

“Steve was always there when you needed something done at the speedway.

“Or just in general he was always there. Steve has been a member of our club for what it seems like forever.”

They said he would be sadly missed by all who knew him.

“He will be forever remembered,” they said.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of the D’Aguilar Highway and Nanango-Tarong Road at Nanango about 5.50am on Thursday.

The three family members were declared deceased at the scene.

Queensland Ambulance Service said there was heavy fog in the area at the time.

It had also been raining in the area and the roads were damp.

The 52-year-old truck driver was taken to Kingaroy Hospital in a stable condition.

The two roads were closed for most of Thursday, but have since reopened.

A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said while the road had reopened, motorists should still expect delays on Friday, as officers would be returning to the scene to continue investigations.
