A three-month-old baby has died days after a car crash that killed his mother north of Brisbane.
The baby boy was travelling with his mother on Caboolture River Road in Upper Caboolture on Friday afternoon when their car crashed into a tree.
Vision of the crash showed the white SUV wrecked, and on its side against the tree.
The 33-year-old woman was unable to be saved, and died at the scene, while the baby was rushed to the Queensland Children’s Hospital with critical injuries.
He died in hospital on Sunday afternoon, police said.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash, which occurred just before 2.30pm. However, police are considering whether speed was a factor, given the damage to the car.
Police said the road is usually busy, particularly at that time of day when parents are driving to pick up their children from school.
On Saturday, Sergeant Greg Price said the baby boy had been strapped into his car seat, but was thrown from the seat due to the impact of the crash.
“The child was actually located within the vehicle upon emergency services’ arrival,” he said.
