A three-year-old boy has tragically died after being hit by a car at a popular showground.
The child was found in a critical condition at Rockhampton Showgrounds on Exhibition Road, in central Queensland, at around 4.30pm on Tuesday.
Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics treated him at the scene but the boy was unable to be saved.
A woman in her 40s was transported to Rockhampton Hospital in a stable condition.
A QAS spokesman said the woman didn’t appear to have suffered any injuries. She has since been discharged.
The tragedy comes a week before the start of the Rockhampton Agricultural Show.
It’s unclear why the child was at the showground ahead of the event.
