ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1109 Hints, Clues And Answer For Tuesday, July 2nd

Today is a big day for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is simply that it’s Thor’s Day, and Thor is a pretty cool Norse god. It’s also the 1,111th Wordle. We won’t get another number like that for another 1,111 days when we get to #2,222 and by then we’ll be almost out of words. That’s just over three years away, however.

It’s also the 4th of July, and we Americans celebrate our independence from the tyrannical British Empire each year on this day with beer and barbeque and fireworks, though not if you live a place as prone to wildfires as our little mountain town. Only beer and barbeque for us.

Finally, we answer yesterday’s riddle which some of you sent me the solution to already.

Yesterday’s Riddle:

I am the beginning of eternity,

The end of time and space.

The beginning of every end

and the end of every place.

What am I?

As many of you surmised, the answer is the letter ‘E’. Not a super hard one today. I’ll do a really tricky one next week to make up for it . . . .

Alright, let’s do this Wordle!

Wordle Analysis

At last, I finally got lucky with today’s Wordle after far too many four pieces. TRADE was a great opening word today, leaving me with three yellow boxes and, I later learned, only 24 words to choose from.

I came up with a handful, and lots began with ‘D’ like DEBIT and DETOX and DEBUT. Honestly, that last one was the first one I thought of and since I didn’t have anything better to guess, I just ran with it.

Much to my surprise, it was the Wordle! Huzzah! Have a great Independence Day, folks!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get 2 points for guessing in two tries and 1 point for beating the Wordle Bot who guessed in four. 3 points for me! Woohoo!

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “debut” comes from the French word “début,” which means “a first appearance.” The French term is derived from the Old French “debuter,” which means “to begin, start.” The Old French “debuter” itself is composed of “de-” (from Latin “de”), meaning “away from” or “off,” and “but” (from Latin “buttare”), meaning “to strike” or “push.” So, the literal sense of the term “début” is to push off or make a start. The word “debut” entered the English language in the mid-18th century, retaining its meaning of a first public appearance or performance.
