ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1118 Hints, Clues And Answer For Friday, July 12th

Saturday is a day that commemorates one of the central gods of the Roman pantheon. Saturn was the god of time, generation, dissolution, abundance, wealth, agriculture, periodic renewal and liberation. Kind of a greedy god, if you ask me. Save some for the rest of the gods, buddy.

Saturn and his sister Opis—a fertility and earth goddess—had six children: Jupiter, Neptune, Pluto, Juno, Ceres and Vesta. A rather celestial bunch. Along with his very own day of the week and a planet, Saturn boasted the biggest and best of all festivals: Saturnalia, a time of great revelry and merrymaking. We should bring it back. This war on Saturnalia will not stand!

Alright, enough rambling. Let’s solve this riddle!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

I actually almost guessed BALDY for my first guess, which I admit was not because I was thinking of bald people but rather because I’d just read that actor Alec Baldwin had the involuntary manslaughter case against him dismissed by the judge. What a strange case that’s been.

BLADE left me with just 19 words I found out later. I was pleased to see a green A and a yellow E and decided my best course was to find where that ‘E’ went. ETHER solved that mystery and gave me a yellow T, though I could think of two possible solutions: ENACT or EXACT. I figured an ‘N’ was more common than an ‘X’ and went with the former. Lucky me, that was the Wordle!

Competitive Wordle Score

I was feeling pretty good about myself until I discovered the evil, vile, nefarious and generally unpleasant Wordle Bot got today’s in two. How? Well guessing CRANE left it with just ONE POSSIBLE SOLUTION. So I get 1 point for guessing in three and lose it immediately because I lost to the Bot. So much for my amazing victory yesterday!

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “enact” comes from the Middle English term “enacten,” which means “to establish” or “to decree.” This, in turn, was derived from the combination of two elements:

  1. The prefix “en-,” which is a variation of “in-,” meaning “in” or “into.”
  2. The root word “act,” which comes from the Latin “actum,” the past participle of “agere,” meaning “to do” or “to drive.”

Therefore, “enact” essentially means “to put into action” or “to make into law.”
