Tottenham seal Archie Gray transfer from Leeds as third summer arrival confirmed

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of Archie Gray from Championship side Leeds United on a six-year deal. Following an incredible breakout season at Elland Road, Spurs have won the race for the 18-year-old’s signature after a move to Brentford collapsed at the eleventh hour on Sunday morning.

Tottenham duly stepped in and have now wrapped up a deal that is expected to cost between £25million and £30million with Joe Rodon joining Leeds on a permanent basis after such a successful loan campaign in West Yorkshire last term. After signing on the dotted line in north London, Gray has penned a six-year contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Making such an impression in Leeds United’s academy, Gray made the bench as a 15-year-old in a Premier League clash against Arsenal in December 2021. Included in the matchday squad in the league a further 11 times after that but unfortunately not coming off the bench to make his Premier League debut, Gray’s senior Leeds bow came last August when he was named in the starting XI in their Championship opener against Cardiff City.

Excelling in a 2-2 draw against the Bluebirds, the Durham-born ace didn’t look back from that moment on and went on to make 52 appearances in all competitions under Daniel Farke. Just missing out on promotion back to the Premier League following a 1-0 defeat against Southampton in the play-off final, Gray’s future was always up in the air ahead of the 2024/25 season with the West Yorkshire club in desperate need to bring some money into the club.

After his move to Brentford fell apart as the Bees could not agree on a payment structure with Leeds for the versatile player, Tottenham nipped in to seal the signing of the England Under-21s international. Gray will add to the competition in Tottenham’s midfield and he can also provide cover at right-back after playing in the position 30 times for Leeds last campaign.

Gray joins Lucas Bergvall in making the move to Tottenham ahead of the new term, with Timo Werner also part of Postecoglou’s 2024/25 plans after re-signing for the club on a season-long loan deal. Gray’s Spurs debut could potentially come on Wednesday, July 17 when they travel to Edinburgh to take on Scottish Premiership side Hearts.
