The development is proposed to take up an area, currently made up of a block of parking bays, next to the shopping centre’s main entrance.

Current plans comprise an eight-storey building made up of short-stay accommodation facilities on levels 1-7 as well as up to six food and drink tenancies and an alfresco dining area on the ground floor.

The short-stay accommodation will compromise of 138 one and two-bedroom apartments across seven floors including amenities such as a lobby, reception area, gym, meeting rooms and laundry areas.

According to the development report, the 29m tall structure falls in line with Kingsway City’s agreed structure plan for its transformation from a suburban shopping centre to a fully integrated mixed-use activity centre.

The report also said if approved, the development would serve a shortage of short-term accommodation facilities in Perth’s northern and eastern corridors.

“The development presents a strategic opportunity to leverage the area’s existing amenities and infrastructure and provide a unique use which complements the existing retail-focus centre and provides an additional accommodation option for the northern and eastern corridors – addressing an existing gap in the market.”

A total of 54 bays are also planned, but only for tenants of the facility.

The development has been submitted by Urbis on behalf of owners Lofte Property, with DKO Architecture the designers of the project.

The public can have their say on the development until July 16 via the City of Wanneroo website.
