Tree crashes into Melbourne house with six people inside amid storms

A tree has fallen through a house with six people inside it in Melbourne’s southeast as storms lashed the state on Monday night.

Emergency services were called to the incident at the home on in Saville St in Ferny Creek just after 11pm.

The six occupants inside were unable to get out of the home before the tree crashed through it and the Country Fire Authority had to assist them.

After they got out of the house, one person was treated by paramedics, but the extent of their injuries is not yet known.

Heavy rainfall lashed the state overnight, bringing down multiple trees and cars became trapped in floodwater.

The State Emergency Service (SES) had to help a woman whose car was stuck in water on a suburban street in Oakleigh South.

There is a moderate flood warning in place for the Latrobe River in West Gippsland from Yallourn to Traralgon Creek.

VicEmergency has warned the flooding is possible from later on Tuesday morning and there has been a rainfall total of 46mm across the Latrobe catchment overnight.

The Latrobe River at Thoms Bridge is expected to reach its minor flood level of 4m by early Tuesday morning.

“The situation is being closely monitored, and warnings will be updated as necessary,” VicEmergency said.

Residents have been urged to prepare for flooding and take actions to protect livestock and property.
