Diabotical Rogue is a new quake-like fast-paced shooter that has launched into early access and is looking good. However, the more interesting news is that two former Counter-Strike world champions are working on bringing a 5v5 competitive game mode to the game.
Both Christopher “GeT_RiGhT” Alesund and Adam “friberg” Friberg have announced they are working on Diabotical Rogue and will be bringing a 5v5 competitive game mode to the game as it moves through early access. There are no further details on what the mode will entail or how soon we can expect it, but the fact these two CS legends are involved is a good sign.
The pair have a long history together, both starting their careers in the 00s before joining forces on the legendary Ninjas In Pyjamas roster that dominated CS:GO when it first launched. The pair would win the ESL One Cologne Major in 2014, becoming world champions for the first time and would go on to have lengthy careers. However, in recent years both hung up the mouse when it comes to competitive play, turning to streaming.
Now the two are reunited once again on Diaboitcal Rogue, working on this 5v5 game mode that is being called Project One Shot.
“[I’m] super excited to join the GD Studio and get the chance to create our own gamemode,” said Friberg. “This is something that I’ve been thinking about doing for a long time, to get the chance to put my own touch to a game with help from my good friend GeT_RiGhT.”
While the game mode from the two CS legends is still a way out, you can play Diabotical Rogue right now, as the game launched into early access overnight. Available on both Steam and the Epic Games Store, the early access version of the game currently includes a 4v4 mode and a 16v16 warmup mode. There is also a roguelike progression for each of the suits your character can use, giving you a lot of options for variety in each of the matches you play.
For anyone wanting to challenge the pair when it comes to creating content for Diabotical Rogue, there is a handy map editor included that allows anyone to make custom maps for the game.
While it is still early Diabotical Rogue already looks like an improvement over the first Daibotical game that somewhat underwhelmed when it launched in 2020. Hopefully, the team can learn from that game and make something that has a little more staying power than the original as it moves through early access over the coming months and years.
