Ubisoft Toronto Is Now Working On The Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time Remake Alongside Splinter Cell

Must read

Ubisoft Toronto has seemingly found itself on the front lines of reviving some much-loved sixth generation Ubisoft titles, having already been working on a remake of the original Splinter Cell and now also joining the folks at Ubisoft Montreal in crafting the embattled Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake.

The studio broke the news in a post on X, writing:

Ubisoft Toronto is joining the development of the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time!

“We’re excited to rewind time and bring our studio’s creativity, expertise and updated tech to refresh this beloved classic with our partners at Ubisoft Montreal.”

Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson recently dropped a set of claims based on “developer sources” that paint a general picture of what the Sands of Time remake now looks like.

The outlet had reportedly been provided actual footage of the in-development remake, and stated that it now looks vastly different from what we saw all the way back in 2020. Henderson said the game looks completely overhauled, and sources have said that the project – which was originally in the works at Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai before being moved to Ubisoft Montreal (and now Toronto) – has been built from the ground up a more “realistic approach” which includes a total visual overhaul, new animations, new mechanics for combat and parkour, new motion capture, writing and more.

Naturally, punters were quick to ask whether the Splinter Cell remake was still on the cards in the face of this new development, with Ubi Toronto giving a quick thumbs up and a “still working on it.”

The Splinter Cell remake has perhaps been even more quiet than The Sands of Time since it was revealed a couple of years ago. At the time, Ubisoft said that the game will be “rebuilt from the ground up” using Ubisoft’s own Snowdrop engine to deliver “new-generation visuals and gameplay, and the dynamic lighting and shadows the series is known for.”
