Police say they are keeping an “open mind” as they investigate whether a drug overdose caused the deaths of four people found in the living room of a home in Melbourne’s north this morning.
Police were called to a Broadmeadows house in Bicknell Court just before 2am, after a neighbour went to check on the house and discovered the bodies.
Police said the four people were yet to be formally identified, but were a 17-year-old boy, two men in their 30s and a 42-year-old woman.
Cory, who said he was an uncle of the deceased teenager, told journalists he found the bodies of the four people.

“Came home to find family members in the house deceased and it’s just tortured me, shocked me,” he said.
He described his nephew as “a brilliant boy” and said two of the deceased people found at the house were neighbours.
He also said he believed the deaths were drug related.
Detective Inspector Dean Thomas said police had found some items in the house that “may be drug paraphernalia” but were yet to determine the cause of death.
“It’s unusual that we find four people deceased in the one property, potentially from a drug overdose,” Inspector Thomas said.
“We’ve got to keep an open mind and until we can confirm that’s the case, it could be anything.”
Inspector Thomas said it was a “very confronting and very traumatic” scene and other causes of death, such as carbon monoxide poisoning, had not been ruled out.

He said while there were some injuries, police did not believe any violence had occurred inside the house before the deaths.
He said three of the four people were known to police.
When asked, Inspector Thomas said police were considering the deaths against the backdrop of increasing overdoses due to fentanyl overseas.
“That’s certainly something that we’re mindful of,” he said.
“It is something that we’re certainly aware of and will keep in our mind.”
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
