The UWA Maali T20 Cricket team has been announced ahead of the UniSport Australia T20 Cricket Nationals competition this week.
The inspired new team will have unfinished business as the UWA Maali T20 Cricket Team will contest for the title in the Sunshine Coast, Queensland (Kabi Kabi/Gubbi Gubbi Country).
After last year’s cancellation, UWA Maali are eager for redemption at this year’s standalone event. The team narrowly missed out on the opportunity to compete in the 2023 finals after a rain delay ultimately saw the remainder of the event cancelled.
UniSport Nationals events provide an opportunity for students of the 42 member universities from across Australia to compete head-to-head in sporting competitions. The winners from each sport in UniSport Nationals will be combined with the winners of the various Nationals Standalone Championships throughout the year to name one university the Overall Nationals Champions.
The competition will commence on Monday 8 July and will involve five days of double-header cricket. The week-long competition will see 10 universities compete in two different pools with UWA battling it out in Pool B alongside tough competition in Macquarie University, The University of Sydney, University of the Sunshine Coast and Western Sydney University.
The current squad has an exciting mix of youth and experience, with a number of players making their T20 Cricket Nationals debut.
Sports Coach Manager, Will Stibbs, is excited at the opportunity for redemption and believes this year’s team is stronger overall.
