King Charles is reportedly “very hurt” by failed attempts to reconcile with his youngest son Prince Harry following years of a “very sour” estrangement between the pair, Sky News contributor Emily Craver has revealed.
The 75-year-old King is reportedly at “the end of his tether” with his son after the monarch was desperate to reunite with the Duke of Sussex during his trip to the UK earlier this month for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.
However, it had emerged Harry declined an invitation to stay at a royal residence while in his hometown of London, opting to use a hotel instead.
Speaking to Sky News host Danica de Giorgio on Friday evening, Ms Craver said King Charles must feel “very hurt” at the bold move after the monarch’s attempted reconciliation with his son.
“After Harry’s recent visit King Charles must feel very hurt,” she said.
“Harry suggested that he hadn’t met with his father because of the King’s busy schedule, it was then revealed that actually Charles had offered to meet his son but Harry had said ‘no no no’ I don’t have enough security and I’d rather stay in a hotel.”
According to The Telegraph, the Duke turned down the offer due to “security concerns” as he was not provided with taxpayer-funded personal security and would be staying in a “visible location with public entrance and exit points”.
He unsuccessfully took the UK government to court over the decision and has since accused the Home Office of subjecting him to “unlawful and unfair treatment”,
He claimed he is being singled out and treated “less favourably” than other members of the royal family as “punishment”.
Ms Craver said relations between the King and Prince Harry have been “very sour” since the Duke leaked “private details” about the British Royal family on many occasions.
“Relations have been very sour, a tad sour, since Harry and Meghan left the royal family in 2020 it was,” she said.
“They’ve spilled all sorts of details of private details of royal life.
“They’ve made some shocking accusations including of racism, so yes, it’s hardly surprising that relations are very much strained still.”
She said it’s “worth remembering” Harry also wrote damning accusations about his father in his bombshell memoir Spare.
“Harry wrote about his father in his book Spare saying he had trouble communicating trouble listening trouble being intimate face to face this isn’t something that any father would want the world to read.”
The Duke of Sussex spent just three nights in London and did not see his brother Prince William during the visit either.
