Veteran Pies star to miss at least a month with injury as games record takes setback

Veteran Collingwood star Scott Pendlebury will reportedly be sidelined for at least a month, after a failed fitness test on Wednesday forced the midfielder in for scans.

As reported by Channel 7’s Mitch Cleary, Pendlebury’s scans revealed a partial tear in a bicep tendon, and will leave him unavailable for the Pies until after their mid-season bye.

The 36-year-old, who was withdrawn from tonight’s game against the Western Bulldogs by coach Craig McRae on Wednesday, is aiming to return for the club’s clash on the Gold Coast in Round 16.

Pendlebury has been a staple amid Collingwood’s recent success this year, averaging over 21 disposals and four clearances a game from 11 matches so far this year.

Pendlebury’s setback now means the 394-game player could play his 400th AFL game in a blockbuster clash against Carlton in Round 21; should he return for against the Suns in a month’s time.

The two-time premiership player earlier this week joined a plethora of teammates on the sideline injured, with Mason Cox (knee), Jordan de Goey (abdomen), Jamie Elliott (vascular), Will Hoskin-Elliott (hamstring), Dan McStay (knee), Brody Mihocek (hamstring) and Tom Mitchell (foot) all missing from the club’s best 23.

Also a Norm Smith Medallist in the 2010 Grand Final Replay, Pendlebury is 38 games behind all-time AFL games record holder Brent Harvey, who played 432 games for North Melbourne between 1996 and 2016.

This week’s setback now means the lifelong Pie will likely need to play into 2026 if he is to either join or surpass Harvey in games played at the top level.
