VFL team selection: Schreiber returns for Marvel Stadium clash

Collingwood VFL-listed defender Kaden Schreiber will play his first game for the Club in 411 days when he lines up in Friday night’s Round 10 clash against Footscray.

The 22-year-old hasn’t pulled on the black and white stripes since Round Four last year, having suffered a knee injury that kept him sidelined for twelve months.

He’ll join an experienced backline alongside the likes of young stars Jakob Ryan, Tew Jiath, and Harry DeMattia.

There are seven changes from the Pies’ most recent match against Werribee in Round Eight, including a pair of debutants.

Midfield bull Josh Mathey who comes from Wodonga is one of those, while the other is young defender Luke Quaynor, brother of AFL Vice-captain Isaac.

The 18-year-old plays with the Oakleigh Chargers and trained with the Club’s VFL squad over the summer, and will now pull on the black and white stripes for the very first time.

Important AFL-listed players Ed Allan, who made his senior debut last week, and Nathan Krueger return to the line up, as do Jedd Longmire and Harry Flynn from the VFL list. 

Ned Long, who on Wednesday night was elevated to the Club’s AFL list through the mid-season draft, will miss the clash through a calf injury. 

Ash Johnson, Charlie Dean and Wil Parker are also part of the outs from the VFL team’s last game having earned AFL promotion over the past fortnight.

Jack Hutchinson, who joined the Club’s VFL program at the start of the season, is also an omission having landed at the West Coast eagles in Wednesday’s mid-season draft with pick three. 

The Marvel Stadium clash will be a curtain-raise to the AFL clash between Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs, and will be the first time the Club’s reserves has played under the roof since 2019.
