West Aussies warned about chance of floods, thunderstorms

West Aussies are being told to prepare for flooding and possible thunderstorms with heavy rainfall forecast to drench part of the State.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a “flood watch” just before midday on Monday, warning flooding could develop in the Onslow Coast and Lyndron-Minilya catchments.

“Rain and chance of thunderstorms over south-west Pilbara and Gascoyne, with possible heavy falls through the far south-west Pilbara and north-west Gascoyne are forecast from Monday,” the BOM statement said.

Some areas could get a total of 80mm to 100mm of rain and low-lying areas are expected to be flooded.

“Many roads, and possibly primary and secondary highways, may be affected,” iot said. “Some communities and homesteads may become isolated.”

Perth will experience showers and gusty winds on Tuesday afternoon.

Cold temperatures are also expected, with a minimum of 7C forecast on Thursday.
