OSCAR, La. (WAFB) – Troopers with Louisiana State Police are investigating a crash that left a 17-year-old dead on Friday morning, July 5.
Officials identified the victim as Rayshon M. Franklin Jr., 17, of St. Francisville.
Superintendent Hollis Milton confirmed Franklin was a student at West Feliciana High School. He was on the school’s football team.
The crash reportedly happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. on LA 78, west of LA 1 in Pointe Coupee Parish.
According to LSP, Franklin was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry eastbound on LA 78 when, for reasons still under investigation, the Toyota exited the roadway to the right, entered a ditch, overturned, and then struck a tree.
Franklin, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police.
Troopers said they do not suspect impairment, but standard toxicology samples will be taken for analysis.
