Thursday night AFL football has been used extensively in 2024 with a game on that evening for the first 13 rounds of the season.
But the AFL made a surprising decision on the fixture regarding Thursday nights from round 16 for the rest of the home-and-away campaign.

Will there be Thursday night AFL football in the second half of the season?
There will be no Thursday night AFL games in the home-and-away season from round 14 onwards.
This decision was made by the AFL in May when it announced the rest of the 2024 fixture from round 16 until the end.
There has been criticism toward the call with fans generally positive about Thursday night football, which has been reflected by crowds and TV figures,
The NRL also has a regular season match scheduled on most Thursday nights.
However, Thursday night AFL football might return for finals, with the potential for one of the first week matches to be scheduled on that evening.
What they said about the AFL removing Thursday night games
AFL 360 host Gerard Whateley: “This is terrible removing Thursday night footy. I’m really cranky about it.
“It is classic outthinking the room to work on a strategy you can only have blockbuster games on Thursday night. Why? We can take some mid games on a Thursday night.
“It hands the NRL a huge free kick where they just fixture every Thursday night. And at a time we’re being told: ‘Our challenge is Netflix, it’s not other sports’.
“Well we’ll all be back on Netflix on Thursday nights.
“We’ve solved it and gone straight back to it. I cannot fathom for the life of me why they would do this … never mind working, just as a footy fan, it’s just disappointing that’s how it’s landed.”
