Why Darren Weir should never be allowed to train in Victoria ever again

Must read

Gareth Hall believes Darren Weir will never be allowed to train in Victoria ever again.

The disgraced trainer is currently awaiting his fate after Racing Victoria stewards sought an additional 10-year ban over the use of a jigger on three racehorses.

With the odds stacked against Weir, Hall says he thinks the Melbourne Cup winning trainer is $101-1 to be given his training licences back given the message it would send to the public.

“I think racing is definitely not ready for Darren Weir to come back,” Hall told SENTrack.

“I don’t think he will come back, in today’s world it will be very difficult and it would take a brave person to give him his licence back from Racing Victoria’s perspective.

“I’ve lived it, I love racing, to try and promote racing, but the social licence is getting harder.

“I’d love to hear from Darren Weir and I think he’ll come and speak after all of this is completed and I think he does have something to offer for the game outside of being a horse trainer.

“I think he can pre-train but I don’t think he should get a stable licence or be part of a racing stable for the time being. I do think he should have an opportunity to pre-train and a lot of people would disagree with me on that.

“I can’t see Racing Victoria with the world that we’re living in with their social licence will give Darren Weir his trainers licence back.

“I can’t see it happening, I reckon it’s $101-1.”

The three-person VRT panel will now factor and consider the penalties to Weir with that process expected to last a number of weeks.
