Why Kate Middleton ‘may never come back’ to royal duties

New questions have been raised about Princess Catherine’s future in the royal family after her cancer treatment with insiders claiming Kate “may never come back” to her official duties.

Sky News contributor Emily Carver says Buckingham Palace has confirmed King Charles “will be in attendance” at this year’s Trooping the Colour event.

It is confirmed that the Princess of Wales won’t be attending the Trooping the Colour rehearsal as she continues her cancer recovery.

Ms Carver told Sky News host Danica De Giorgio that it is “not the best place to be” if Princess Kate is suffering with her health.

Kate confirmed her cancer diagnosis in an emotional video message in March and revealed she had started “preventative chemotherapy”, which prompted a global outpouring of support for the Princess of Wales.

The revelation ended global speculation about her health and whereabouts after she disappeared from public life following major abdominal surgery in January.

On Tuesday, a source told American outlet Us Weekly that the future Queen Consort “is up and about” but being extra cautious with visitors amid her cancer treatment.

“Kate’s recovery is going well,” the source said.

“She’s not able to see many people because she is susceptible to getting sick and they don’t want her compromised, but she’s up and about.”

The cancer cells were discovered while the Princess was undergoing an unrelated abdominal surgery at The Clinic, coincidentally the same London hospital where King Charles discovered he also had cancer.

Whilst receiving her treatment, the Princess is understood to be residing between the Wales’ family home, Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor estate and the family’s country home Anmer Home in rural Norfolk.

According to a second source, Kate’s team are currently “reevaluating what she’s going to be able to take on when she comes back”.

“She may never come back in the role that people saw her in before,” the source told the same outlet.

Despite the concern about her future role, Kensington Palace has confirmed that Kate is still being briefed on her major royal causes on an intermittent basis.

Prior to her cancer diagnosis, the Princess of Wales championed early childhood development as one of her major causes and commissioned a report to assess how prioritising childhood development can help the British economy.

Last month, a palace spokesperson said early childhood continues to be a “huge priority” for Kate, who has been kept fully updated on the progress of the report during her recovery.
