Emma Raducanu was in attendance on Centre Court to watch Carlos Alcaraz retain his Wimbledon crown – and the Spaniard has addressed suggestions the pair could be dating
Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz has refused to be drawn on rumours he’s dating Emma Raducanu after the Brit was seen attending Sunday’s final.
The Spaniard retained his crown at SW19, winning his fourth Grand Slam in the process, as he produced a masterclass to see off Novak Djokovic. A host of recognisable faces were in Centre Court, with Raducanu among them – which only served to fuel the rumour mill.
The US Open champion from 2021 enjoyed her best Grand Slam run since that victory in New York nearly three years ago. Both she and Alcaraz are 21 but the Spaniard refused to draw much from her attendance – insisting if there was a tournament played in his homeland he would also attend.
“I don’t know. I guess a lot of people came to see the final,” he said, when asked why Raducanu would have wanted to watch the final. “Novak and I we always play a spectacular match, it’s a beautiful match to see.
“And she is from here, so I imagine that she wanted to come and see it. If there was a Grand Slam in Murcia I would watch the finals 100 per cent. I don’t know if she came to the finals or if she came to see me. Who knows? You have to question her, but I hope she enjoyed the final.”
Raducanu reached the fourth round at Wimbledon before she was beaten qualifier Lulu Sun. In her two wins leading into the clash with the New Zealander, Alcaraz had played beforehand on the same court.
The Brit has claimed that, after watching the Spaniard, she drew inspiration from his style of play and attempted to mimic some of his shots. She said: “The last couple matches I’ve been following Carlos and it’s just good to watch before my own match. And sometimes in certain moments you in a way try to emulate certain shots or whatever.”
Raducanu is understood to be single having split up with her ex-boyfriend Carlo Agostinelli this summer.
The pair were seen arm-in-arm at Paris Fashion Week last September, which confirmed their romance. However they later went their separate ways and unfollowed each other on social media as the relationship “ran its course.”
Alcaraz himself is also single and has admitted finding a partner can be challenging due to the demands of playing on tour. “I am looking for someone. It can be difficult as a tennis player to meet the right person because you are travelling all the time,” he said.
