Day 2 of Wimbledon brings a full half of the women’s first round–32 matches in all. And as always, we here at LastWordOnTennis predict every single one for you. We split Tuesday’s matches between eight articles. Wimbledon Day 2 Predictions
Caroline Garcia vs Anna Blinkova
Damian:
Garcia also makes this section look pretty open as while she’s fantastic at the net and can dominate matches on grass, you just never know how well she’ll perform on the day. She’s still the more likely winner here, but it’s not like Blinkova is a pushover.
Prediction: Garcia in 3
Jordan:
Garcia’a record is slightly surprising, considering her big serve and powerful groundstrokes. She is also very inconsistent, meaning her matches can be hard to predict. Nonetheless, the Frenchwoman should still have enough against Blinkova, whose defence is probably not strong enough on grass against Garcia.
Prediction: Garcia in 2
Manuel:
Garcia is not having a good season so far; she hasn’t played on grass yet in 2024 and she faces an opponent who’s beaten her twice in the past. It should be a very tight match but Blinkova could definitely score the upset here.
Prediction: Blikova in 3
Bernarda Pera vs Anastasia Potapova
Damian:
Pera usually performs much better on clay than on grass, but Potapova isn’t the most reliable player on this surface either. The Russian has taken a step back since looking like one of the hottest prospects on tour. Maybe this is her chance to get an important win.
Prediction: Potapova in 2
Jordan:
Grass does not suit clay-court specialist Pera’s game at all. Potapova just needs to be consistent and patient in this matchup to win. She is very likely to do that successfully.
Prediction: Potapova in 2
Manuel:
Both players have been doing well on grass so far this year, but Potapova is generally the more solid and consistent player of the two. If she replicates the level she showed in Birmingham, she should be able to pull through here.

Oceane Dodin vs Daria Snigur
Damian:
It’s a pretty crazy stylistic contrast with Dodin being a bona fide ballbasher, while Snigur will just try to extend the points and survive until the Frenchwoman makes an error. On grass, bashing is sometimes the solution.
Prediction: Dodin in 3
Jordan:
Snigur battled through qualifying in impressive fashion. She will believe that a victory against Dodin is possible, since the Frenchwoman has never won a main draw match at Wimbledon. But I favour Dodin’s greater firepower in this matchup, even on a surface she is not as comfortable on.
Prediction: Dodin in 3
Manuel:
Snigur has been playing very well on grass so far this year and had a great run through the qualifying here at Wimbledon. If she maintains the level she has been showing she should be able to beat the higher ranked Dodin here.

Jelena Ostapenko vs Ajla Tomljanovic
Damian:
Ostapenko has seemingly gone back to her ultra-volatile phase where she can lose to anyone again (wasn’t true last year maybe outside of one hiccup). Here playing a very capable grass-courter right away (a recent Birmingham finalist), she would need to find her game literally right away.
Prediction: Tomljanovic in 3
Jordan:
This promises to be one of the best women’s first round matches. These two met at Wimbledon previously, and there were some heated moments during and after the contest. Ostapenko is the better player at her best, but Tomljanovic is always consistently solid on grass. Overall, I will give the Latvian a very slight edge to prevail and avenge her previous loss at SW19 to the Australian.
Prediction: Ostapenko in 3
Manuel:
Tomljanovic actually won when the pair faced at Wimbledon in 2021 and she played very well to reach the Birmingham final last week. She could very well upset Ostapenko here, who’s not been playing very well on grass.
