With 16 matches on the slate on day four at Wimbledon, there should be plenty of exciting tennis for the fans at the All England Club. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match, including Holger Rune vs Thiago Seyboth Wild, Novak Djokovic vs Jacob Fearnley, and Thanasi Kokkinakis vs Lucas Pouille. But who will advance?
Wimbledon Day 4 Predictions
Alexander Zverev vs Marcos Giron
Ateet: Alexander Zverev looked absolutely brilliant in the first round. His serve is always good, but he played very aggressively and came to the net a lot. Roberto Carballes Baena was the ideal opponent for him, but Marcos Giron will be a tougher test. Giron has a cheeky good game for grass and has been playing well in the build-up tournaments. Zverev’s serve will keep him ticking and he will hope to break Giron at least a couple of times.
Prediction: Zverev in 4
Jordan: Giron is a very solid baseliner, who has improved on grass this year. But there is not enough in his game to hurt Zverev. The German’s strong serve is likely to see him rack up service games quickly, which will put pressure on Giron’s weaker delivery.
Prediction: Zverev in 3
Damian: This is actually quite tricky for Zverev already, especially as his grass game is a little subpar. That’s mostly as his passive baseline approach doesn’t fully work here and even someone like Giron could find some patches where he’ll be all over the German. With the American’s form during this grass swing, this looks like a real test for the fourth seed.

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Emil Ruusuvuori
Ateet: Stefanos Tsitsipas has never done great at Wimbledon, and he will be keen to perform here at the best of his level. He has started well but Ruusuvuori will be a sterner test. Emil Ruusuvuori managed to win the first round at Wimbledon for only the second time and he has a chance to go further than he has ever been. Tsitsipas is the favourite in this match, but he is not a given to win on grass and Ruusuvuori has the game to trouble him.
Prediction: Tsitsipas in 4
Jordan: This is a dangerous match for Tsitsipas. He has been prone to upsets on grass, and Ruusuvuori possesses the powerful game to make it possible. An upset in five sets for Ruusuvuori is backed.
Prediction: Ruusuvuori in 5
Damian: Tsitsipas is rarely at his best on grass, but he did play some great tennis at Wimbledon last year. The Greek should be looking at his quarter as a big opportunity now, particularly with Korda or Rublev already out. Ruusuvuori on a good day could cause him trouble, but the Finn has been out of form for a long while now and barely got that McDonald win in round one.
Prediction: Tsitsipas in 4
Alexei Popyrin vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry
Ateet: Both these players played a solid match in the first round and will be confident of their abilities to win this match. Tomas Martin Etcheverry won his first match on grass this year in a dominant display, but Alexei Popyrin has more weapons to trouble him. This is a close match to call, but Popyrin has slightly more experience on this surface.
Prediction: Popyrin in 5
Jordan: Etcheverry’s overall game is better than Popyrin’s, but he might not get to demonstrate that if Popyrin serves at his best. This could be one of the tightest matches of the tournament so far. Popyrin’s huge serve is narrowly favoured to progress.
Prediction: Popyrin in 5
Damian: Etcheverry isn’t your typical clay specialist on grass being almost two meters tall and while you might question if he’s really getting everything he could out of that serve, he’s not to be underestimated. Popyrin is probably the favorite, but I like the chances of Etcheverry to make this one competitive and make the Australian have to work for the win.

Lorenzo Musetti vs Luciano Darderi
Ateet: Two talented Italians face each other in the second round of Wimbledon. Lorenzo Musetti has played exceptionally well on grass this season and would like to make a deep run. Luciano Darderi has also played some quality tennis recently which helped him to win his first-round match where he was down two sets to one. Musetti’s superior form makes him the favourite for me but it will be a close match.
Prediction: Musetti in 5
Jordan: Darderi has made a lot of progress this year, but Musetti’s improvement on grass is even more notable. His experience on the surface gives him the edge in this matchup. Darderi might win a set though.
Prediction: Musetti in 4
Damian: Musetti survived a scare against Lestienne, almost going down two sets to love. The Italian saved himself in time though and has developed his grass game beautifully over the last year or so. Darderi isn’t completely deprived of fast court potential either though with his big serve and he started out this year surprisingly well. This might get trickier than it seems for the seeded Italian.
Prediction: Musetti in 5
