It was another convincing victory for Coco Gauff at Wimbledon on Wednesday as she overcame Anca Todoni in straight sets on Centre Court.
The 20-year-old, who lost to compatriot Sofia Kenin in the opening round last year and is looking to make a big impact at the All England Club this time around, has looked in sparkling form so far as she recorded another strong showing.
Gauff is chasing another Grand Slam title after she triumphed at the US Open last year, and she was left very pleased with her performance against Todoni.
“I’m happy with how I played, I do think I could have played cleaner in some moments, but overall I’m happy to get through to the third round,” she said.
Asked about any added pressure on her after her US Open crown, she said: “Overall, I just learnt about life a lot. What I do, I’m very passionate about, but it’s not ever that serious. It’s a game, it’s sport.
“Sometimes the world can make you feel like there is so much pressure and expectation. I’m very privileged and honoured to be playing out here in front of you guys.
“This is the first court I played on at Wimbledon, so Court One is always a special place for me to play on.”
“I never look at the draws, I only pay attention to who I play in the first and then the next match,” she said. “At the end of the day, you have to get through that before you play the next.
“Obviously, I know about some of the withdrawals that have happened, and it’s very unfortunate, and it’s a long season, so I wish all the players who had to withdraw to be back soon.”
