A woman has shared a simple travel hack to stop “sneaky” thieves targeting you on holiday, and it’s particularly important for those planning to visit European cities
There’s nothing quite like the thrill of jetting off on holiday. The joy of not having to clock in at work, soaking up the sun and spending your days lounging by the pool with a cocktail in hand is unparalleled.
However, it’s crucial to stay vigilant when travelling. This is because tourists often fall victim to thefts abroad, with pickpockets being particularly rife in European cities.
But one woman recently shared a simple trick to help avoid this. Alexis, who goes by the name complexis on TikTok, posted a video sharing a straightforward hack that could help you dodge “sneaky” thieves during your travels.
Her advice is particularly relevant for those planning to visit Barcelona or any other major city this summer. She pointed out a common mistake people make while dining out.
In her video, Alexis warned: “If you’re sitting at a table, usually it’s normal for us to just have our phones on the table, right there. We’re constantly looking at it.
“People will approach you with a map, or a drawing, or something. They look sweet. They feel sweet.
“They come to you and underneath, when you’re not looking, they take your phone. I just watched somebody get robbed.
“They are so upset. It’s not even 10am, or 11am, so upsetting. They are so sneaky, and it’s so upsetting.”
Warning: Video may contain offensive language
She urged people to never leave their mobiles out on tables, as it tempts thieves to target you. If someone approaches offering something, she insisted you firmly decline and secure your belongings.
Though it may sound like a no-brainer, this issue is rife. Alexis pointed out that it’s the “worst” part of visiting the beautiful city.
The clip has since racked up more than 60,000 views, with many people thanking her for the tip-off. One user remarked: “In Barcelona the waiters will grab your iPhone off the table, and hand it to you. I had it happen three times until I got the hint.”
Another shared a similar experience, writing: “In Madrid also happens. However, Barcelona is the Mecca for sneakers by far.”
Someone else recounted their misfortune: “Mine was stolen like that in Barcelona last year. Funny thing is, I thought I was being so cautious and aware of my surroundings.”
A fourth also wrote: “Ignore anyone you don’t know, and keep your head on a swivel. Eating outdoors in Barcelona is a key target spot.”
